There are spiritual successors in the works and ones that have been released like Thrive but that didn’t quite live up to what had been promised by being overly complicated at times. Spore 2 would be a fantastic addition to the series, building on everything the original did but on a grander scale and improving upon features that need it would make for an enjoyable experience.

It’s safe to say that a full Spore 2 could work and whilst there’s no real clear answer on everything that could be done to improve the game, it’s still a series that deserves another chance in the spotlight and with the right treatment a true sequel could offer so much more than the original. As well as all this, graphics would be a welcome improvement as the 2008 release is starting to look quite outdated. Gameplay could do with a vast improvement, building on what people enjoyed with the original but with more variety to the world such as species developing at different rates and interactions being more in-depth and thought out. An increase to the limits of parts and more variety as to what’s available could lend itself well in enriching the creature creator experience. What a true sequel could offerĪn improvement to the creature creator system wouldn’t go amiss here as it’s one of the most popular features of the original. The online integration system lent well to gameplay as other creations would be species found throughout your playthrough, which made for some interesting interactions with characters like Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc and a sleuth of other recognisable characters.Įven today, Spore videos gain millions of views on YouTube, showing that the success of the game still lives on over 10 years later and it would be a true shame if this success wasn’t capitalised on in some shape or form with another sequel to the series. Perhaps the most successful part of Spore was its creature creator, an in-depth tool used to create different species and often pushed to its limits to create almost anything imaginable. Spearheaded by the same mind behind the sims, Spore was marketed as another god-like game where you oversee the evolution of a singular species and how it interacts with others based on your inputs. Darkspore didn’t live up to expectations and in 2016, the servers closed forever, the game was removed from stores like Steam and even if purchased the game, you could no longer play it. Spore Hero was received better than its DS counterpart it still didn’t quite match the original.Ī glimmer of hope for Spore was announced with a sequel, Darkspore and in 2011 it launched but unlike the first Spore Darkspore instead focused on action RPG elements exclusively and whilst it did have a “hero creator”, it wasn’t quite the evolutionary process that made Spore what it was. The Nintendo Wii also saw its small share of Spore, with Spore Hero releasing in 2009 which aimed to make use of the Wii controls in the creativity and evolution processes.

The DS went on and received another Spore game, Spore Hero Arena which featured an overworld with exploration and puzzle-solving but unfortunately the reviews weren’t very glowing, often getting critiqued for having no redeeming features. The Nintendo DS received a spin-off titled Spore Creatures that mainly focused on the creature stage but with added elements and more of an emphasis on storytelling and RPG inspired gameplay. The sequel that vanished and other spin-offs However, this was the last and only expansion to Spore and since then the game hasn’t received any updates outside of removing the controversial DRM features that plagued the game at launch. Spore received a much-needed expansion in 2009 that rounded up the game rather well Spore: Galactic Adventure allowed players to beam onto other planets found in the universe which added more depth to the game. Released in 2008, Spore is a mix of life simulation, real-time strategy and god-like game whereby the player starts as a single cell organism and works their way up to space, going through various stages that all lend themselves to creativity with a funny yet robust “creature” creator system that allows you to design your perfect evolution of a species.
